Girly Girls!

Oooohhh...I love all the pastels!  I especially love them this time of the year when I'm fall colored out and about to overdose on red and green!  It's always nice to expand my color palette just a wee bit.  This sweet 10x10 princess verse for Cassi shipped out a little while back.

This one of my absolute favorite quotes for the baby nursery.  However, it would be really special for any child.  I think it would be perfect for adoptive parents as well.  This is a really pretty color combination of hot pink, lime, gray, and navy.

Here's the same quote with hearts instead of dots.  Wouldn't this be cute with stars and in blues and yellows, too?  This 11x14 also features a purple, lavender, and pink color combination.

Here's two more of the princess canvases for a set of sisters, Maddie and Marley.  So sweet!

Cooper

Okay, so I love everything about this set!  I had the name Cooper picked out if Lauren had been a boy.  The aqua/gray/orange color combination is one of my all time favorites.  It's always so fresh!  I also love polka dots and chevron.  Oh, my goodness!

This is going to be absolutely adorable above the crib!

I had never seen this quote before, but it is so sweet!  I also love the layout.

I can just picture both of these pieces in Cooper's nursery.  Thank you so much for this wonderful order!  Enjoy!

Baby Boys

New customer April Payne liked the birth announcement canvas design that I have available on etsy.  She wanted to make a few changes to make it perfect for her son's nursery.  She requested the light blue and sage green argyle on the top canvas and the stripes on the bottom canvas.

Instead of the name at the top, she wanted a fancy monogram - which I think turned out sooo pretty!  Since these are done in a little larger size (11x14 and 8x10) I was able to put the name on the bottom canvas like wanted as well.  I just love this one!

Believe it or not, this one is for a completely different nursery.  I just happened to have these two orders using exactly the same colors during the same week.  Isn't this just the sweetest quote for a nursery?

Lots Of Bathroom Dots!

I do tons and tons of these sets of four 5x5's for the bathroom.  It's amazing because all of them are a little different.  This set is pale pink with pink, white, and aqua dots.  Fit for a princess!

I really like that the words are in cursive instead of the usual print.  That little touch makes them look so much girlier!

This set is bright, bright, bright!  All of the colors together are so cheerful.  I didn't get to see the bathroom that they went in, but I can picture it in my mind!

This cute font and all of those satin ribbon are the perfect compliment to the canvases.  So cute!

Blessed

Stephanie Vance in Woodbury, Tennessee ordered this 16x20 quote for her bedroom.  She says that the walls are a chocolate brown and the bedding is gray and white.  I thought the white background of the canvas would really stand out on that dark wall.

I also did the word "blessed" in the background in gray to tie in that bedding color.  I think it turned out really pretty and is such a sweet saying.  Thank you, Stephanie!  It was a pleasure!

The Best Background Color Ever...

...has got to be khaki!  It's dark but not too dark.  It goes with so many other colors.  Best of all, it provides a lovely backdrop for whatever needs to be in the foreground.  I go through bottles and bottles of this paint!

Finally, here's two family rules with the khaki background.  These 8x24's are really cute, but also have important life lessons to remember.  The best thing is that the rules can be custom painted to match your home or classroom needs.

Show Us Your Life - Crafts for Kids

I'm so excited to be linking up with Kelly's Korner today to show off some great crafts for kids!  I am also really excited to go and visit all of you and get tons of new ideas!  I am an elementary school teacher and love to incorporate art into my lessons whenever possible.  I am also an artist and I'm starting some art classes this summer.  I am so looking forward to it!  If you'd like to check out the schedule, here's the link to my class blog.  Now, on to some crafting...

As you can see, I am an artsy-craftsy person.  Always have been!  Although most of my projects do involve painting, I've tried to dig up some variety for you.  My daughter and I painted these wooden boards to be mini chalkboards!  They turned out so cute!  Here's the link to see step by step instructions.

This is one of my favorite projects ever!  The Pottery Barn Kids flower covered lampshade that my daughter wanted was totally out of my budget, so I  made one!  Here's the tutorial for that one.

I am teacher at an elementary school and at our local college.  I tie-dye each year with both groups!  Here's the link to see more tie dying and to get tips on products to use and folding techniques.  Go get your hippie on!

One of my favorite projects that I've recently taken on is working with buttons.  These buttons were just purchased at the craft store, but how fun would it be to work with some vintage buttons or family heirlooms?  I can see some beautiful projects with a vintage feel.

I fell in love with the plain wooden owl cut outs and bought them without really having a plan.  Turns out that they made wonderful bow hangers.  I just painted them up super cute and used the staple gun to attach grosgrain ribbon.  Don't use the silky kind for this project - the bows just slide right off!

I've been experimenting with burlap lately.  I love using it my home because I like that outdoorsy feel and it is not very expensive.  We had our church youth group over for a dinner and I whipped up this little banner for the mantle with scrap burlap, ribbon, paint, and a little stitch witch.  Perfect!

Yellowy Goodness!

It's almost spring time!  My favorite color changes all of the time, but yellow is always right up there at the top.  Always has been.  It is just the perfect color for spring!

It was always yellow and baby pink.  And then I did a lot of yellow and lime.  All of those were pretty, but the yellow and gray combination is so fresh and modern.  I love it!  Pair that color combo with chevron, and it is a match made in heaven!

This one was ordered to match a baby shower invitation.  It was going to be used on the table as decoration and then on to the nursery.  I love that idea - so smart!  Thank you so much for the order, Whitney!

This yellow is a little paler but still oh so pretty!  It is paired with navy blue and light blue - along with that gorgeous gray.  This one was painted for a third brother.  Click here and here to see the other two matching ones.  I saw that pic of baby Carter that you sent me when he was born - how sweet!!!  Congrats on the new baby, Laura!

I Prayed For This Child...

Ohhhh, I love this one!  I am a huge fan of the Shabby Chic stuff so this was right up my alley.

 

I don't use a whole lot of teal anymore.  When Jackie Brown asked for that color I was kind of surprised.  She explained that the mom is using quilts with lots of colors, the Shabby Chic furniture, and a few pinks and florals. Jackie wanted something sweet and girlie to give as a shower gift.

 

Jackie sent me this photo of a rocker that will be used in the nursery as inspiration.  Let me just say that I want this chair!  It reminds me of a yellow one that I had as a little girl.

Scarlet Fever

It seems that I have been using a lot of red lately. Shades of red are difficult to work with. I call red the "diva" of colors. Is it weird that I have a personality created for all of the colors?
Anyway, it is hard to paint over red. If you make a mistake with red, it is near impossible to cover. On the other hand, red is sheer. Whatever you want to paint over with red shows through even after several coats.

With all of that being said, and I am sure you all wanted a lesson on the intricacies of red, it has a richness and timelessness that is surpassed by none other. People will always love red.
