Ringing in the New Year Right - Giveaway #6

I forgot to tell you all that today's giveaway has an extension. I will be at church at 8:00, so let's cut this one off at 9:00. Thanks!
Paula Wanamaker from "My Cookbook Life" doesn't consider herself a "crafty" person. I told her that there is a difference between crafty and creative. She is definitely creative! She says that baking is a hobby, but to her it's more like therapy. I understand that well. Lots of times painting is my escape or therapy as well. Paula loves to bake, cook, and try new recipes. She was inspired by her grandmother, Inez, who she would stand beside as a child and watch her make the most beautiful cakes and pies. Just about anything she cooked was amazing! Paula also thanks her for instilling good Christian values. She has always admired her faith and strength and continues to watch her walk daily with our Lord.

A few years ago, Paula baked some Mexican Wedding cakes and left them in a dear friend’s mailbox as a "happy". The friend called her up that night and said, "Paula, you have to start a bakery---I'll be a regular customer!" Paula was flattered, but never really thought about it. But her friend insisted she start by offering goodies to family and friends, and it's just blossomed from there! Tabetha also gave Paula the idea to do the Autumn Street Fair in 2007, and Paula admits it was her first "gig"! She spilt a booth with Kathy’s Bridal, and was extremely overwhelmed at the response from everyone. She had the whole family come to her house the night before and they all worked together as a team. It was great! They all baked, bagged, and tagged some 500 different bags of cookies. Paula sold out by 2pm at the street fair, and was shocked people were coming back for more. It made her smile!

Paula has a dream of someday opening a bakery, but also incorporating the Tas-T-O donut shop into it somehow. Her family loved the donut shop, but had to say goodbye for reasons unknown. She and Alison loved working there and getting to see new people everyday. But for now, Paula is working fulltime at NurseOne for a dear friend, Clair Cochran, who asked her to be her "side-kick" once again. Paula says, “I love Human Resources, and love my job, but as you know I'm always on the go! I recently got my Notary, so I was very happy with that accomplishment as well”.

Paula’s days are consumed with getting out the door to take Salem to his 7am AP class at the WCMS, then off to Hickory Creek to get Carter J. settled in, then off to work. She has been married to her best friend, Terry, and they are very involved with both of their boys’ school activities. Salem is a very active boy who loves to volunteer as much as his mother does. Carter is progressing very well in his therapies, and she is very proud of him and all he has accomplished this past year.
Autism Awareness is something that is very close to Paula’s heart as well. Paula is also very active in Relay for Life. Her Queens for a Cure team has lots of new surprises for the upcoming year. As if she needed something else to do, she is also a member of the Morrison Ruritan. Whew! I am tired just typing all of this!

In the coming year, Paula’s biggest project will be a new cookbook. She says that it is “not just your regular cookbook, it's going to be big & blingin'! I can't wait to share with all of you”. Paula says that she has been extremely blessed to have been introduced over the past few years to such wonderful people here in our community. She hopes and looks forward to meeting more people and sharing her love of baking with anyone, and everyone. Paula is such a sweetheart!
