Show Us Your Life - Kids' Rooms

It's kids' rooms day on Kelly's Korner's Show Us Your Life Series - the room I paint for the most!   When we moved into our house about four months ago, I had the most fun planning the kids' rooms.  It was time for them to make some changes and update their rooms, but everything had been on hold until the house buying process was over.
My daughter had always had pink a a major theme in her nursery and then room.  She decided to go with a pale lime green paired with a pale aqua ceiling for something different a little more grown up.  I wasn't too sure about that colored ceiling, but I love it and it shows off the trim.
There was a big, dark ceiling fan in this room originally.  The one thing she really asked for - other than a canopy bed - was a chandelier.  I bought this one online and it turned out to be the perfect size.  It is so pretty lit up at night.  I also did a chandelier vinyl wall decal above her antique wrought iron bed.

My son's walls were a nice cream that I was okay with leaving.  He really wanted a blue room and since I had gotten his sister her wish list item, I felt like I needed to do that for him.  Her specified not light blue.  I don't really like dark wall colors and was really stressing about the right shade of blue.   I went with this sort of stormy shade of blue that matches the chambray color in his quilt.  When it was done and I saw it with the wide cream trim and wall art, I just loved it.
He is a baseball player and just loves the game - not one particular team.  I found this Pottery Barn Kids quilt with all of the MLB logos on it.  Perfect!  I paired it with some cheerful polka dotted pillows and we were all set!

Here's a link to another post that better details where I bought everything.  Most of it is from etsy shops and I love supporting other artists!

As an added bonus (and because I love painting for kid's rooms!) I am doing a little giveaway today!  I am thrilled to be giving away a $30.00 canvas, either 11x14 or 8x24, depending on what you need for your kid's room!  Everyone who leaves a nice comment on this post today is entered.  Please only enter once and be sure to leave contact info.  I'll randomly choose a comment at about 10:00 tonight and announce the winner.  It's my little "thank you" for letting me know that you stopped by today!  Good luck!

Boy - The Definition

Ashley Coulter is having a baby boy!  Here's a picture of the nursery with a big blank spot over that super cute bookshelf.  She ordered a 16x16 canvas to fill that spot.  Here's the link to her blog to see the after pictures.

Ashley wanted this definition of "boy".  Her only other request was that it matched the colors in the nursery.  She's got some great colors in there and I wanted to include them all.  I thought polka dots would be a great way to do that!

Isn't this just the cutest thing ever?  I love it!  Congratulations, Ashley, and thank you so much for sharing your nursery with us today!

A Mother's Love

These two are a recent etsy order shipped out to Kim in Roma, Texas.  She actually ordered two 5x5's but needed them by a certain date.  I was all out of 5x5's - panic!  She let me substitute 5x7's instead.  They look great on this size and it all worked out!

I love the quote she chose.  The cream looks so good on the chocolate brown.  I usually do tan, but she requested the cream.  I hope they made the perfect gifts, Kim!  Thank you!

Show Us Your Life - Dining Rooms

Today on Kelly's Korner's Show Us Your Life Series, it's dining rooms!   I can't wait to show you my dining room because technically that's not what I use that room for.  Our kitchen and den are sort of one big room with an eating area.  That's where we do all of our dining!

On the other side of the kitchen, there is a room that would traditionally be thought of as a dining room.  I've always wanted one and when we moved in thought this was my big chance!

However, it just seemed to work out for us best right now to use that space as my studio.  I needed a place to paint that was close to a sink and where I could keep an eye on the kids.  Maybe later, when there's not so many toys up there,  I can move up to the bonus room and make this a true dining room.

Here is from the other side.  I love the big columns, trim, and plantation shutters.  They let in great light for painting.  This whole room was sort of a red/burnt orange color when we bought it.  I had the walls and the ceiling painted two slightly different shades of green to show off those features and soften it up a bit.  I love "my space" but would love to have a nice dining room, too!  I'll just go see yours!
Thanks for stopping by today!

Guest Post - Bonn Bonn Boutique

I am thrilled today to be doing a guest post for Bonn Bonn Boutique!   She has also asked me to co host her Shop Hop today.  I always try to link up and join in on the fun!  If you've got a blog, home business, or etsy shop, it is a great way to share your talents!

I recently did these three family canvases.  I always love doing this design!

I know that Michelle Best ordered hers for her new home.  How exciting is that?  She wanted a little touch of orange to match her living room.  Sallie Slatton ordered one with a some light aqua to give as a wedding gift.  These canvases are perfect shower gifts!

Suzette York's family canvas in the classic brown, tan, and ivory was a part of her huge order that has been my number 1 on the to-do list for a while now.  I'm slowly checking that one off the list!

Thank you for taking the time to visit the blog today.  I don't say that often enough.  I really am so thankful for all of my customers.  It's you who allow me to do what I love.
I'd love for you to become a follower and come back soon!  Thanks again and don't forget to shop hop!

Forever and Always...

Okay, so I posted the sister version with promises to share her brother's.  Here it is!  Kristen sent me a link to the bedding to match the colors.  I loved these big, bright dots on the chocolate brown background and decided to focus on those.

I had to keep the boy version a little more masculine so the scalloped edges (my favorite feature!) had to go.  I used small dots in the burnt orange and a border instead.

I also decided to change the font to a nice, simple print rather than the flowy cursive.  I just love this one and know it looks great over his crib.  Thanks again, Kristen!

Back to the 60's

We had a good time at the Back to the 60's event today.  Bar-B-Que nachos and Hawaiian Ices!  The weather started out so nice, but eventually it turned dark and cloudy.  When the clouds rolled in, the crowds rolled out.

Here's a shot of my booth.  I did burlap tablecloths this time instead of my usual quilt.  I think it looked cute and got lots of compliments!

My favorite customer of the day, Amber, and her personalized canvas!

I have several great pieces left over from the day.  Here's the link to the facebook album where they are for sale.  Click here and go do some shopping!

There are all shapes, color, and sizes.  They are also marked down at a great price.  They make great gifts - stock up!

Show Us Your Life Series - Master Bedroom

It's time for another link up to Kelly's Korner for the Show Us Your Life Series.  I love going and looking at all of the rooms.  You get so many great ideas!  Today Kelly is featuring the master bedroom.  Our bedroom has this fabulous window with plantation shutters.  When we bought the house, it was covered with paper.  Yikes!  The first thing I did was take all that down and clean off all of the tape and dust.  Beautiful!
I know it's hard to tell here, but I wanted to get a piece of the ceiling in there.  Our walls are a green/gray color, but the ceiling is brown.  I love the way it makes the wide cream trim and recessed lighting pop.

Our bedding is actually a soft blue, grey , and cream paisley.  I like peaceful colors in the bedroom.  the mission style bed has a matching dresser that I somehow managed not to get a picture of!  The clean lines of the furniture style make it my favorite!  Above the bed is my absolute favorite painting.  I think every artist has that one painting...this is it for me!

Here's the pretty french doors with frosted glass that open to our bathroom.  That old white trunk was in my bedroom growing up.  Now I keep all of the kids' keepsakes in there.  It's full of school artwork, handwritten letters, and report cards.

There's a little glimpse at the dresser!  This corner has a chair that was my grandmother's.  Getting it recovered in a plush creamy color is on my list of projects.  I also have some gray and blue fabric picked out to recover that that pillow.  I bought this little side table with baskets to store all of the kids' movies.  I painted the flower.  I think that might be the only artwork I've done in our whole house!

I hope you enjoyed your walk through my bedroom.  Now I am off to tour some of yours!

I Love You Forever...

Kristen Mercer and her daughter have a special book that they read together.  From that book, there is a quote that they tell each other each night at bedtime. "I love you forever, and ever, and always".

Kristen decided that is was so special that she needed it painted on a canvas to hang in her room.  She asked for something with lots of pinks and a touch of green to match the room decor.  She also wanted it to have a "timeless" look.
This is the design that I came up with and am so happy with it!  I'm proud of all of the paintings that I do, but I spent some extra time in the design process on this one.   Kristen was so happy with it that she ordered another one for her son's room.  I'll share that one with you soon!
Here's the picture of her pink and green bedding (photo courtesy of amazon.com).  I know that canvas looks just perfect hanging over her bed!

Thank you so much, Kristen!
