A Day in the Life of a Canvas

Canvases are delivered to my home. I always love pulling up and seeing the big box on my porch. I order in bulk so if anyone orders last minute, I have what they need in stock.

After the backgorounds are painted and dry, I use a small brush for the lettering and details. This is a new design that will be featured later. It looks great in any color. I will be using it for upcoming high school/college graduation gifts. All of my work is done at my kitchen table!

Sometimes I have to fight the cats for space, especially when the sun is shining.

After all of the painting is complete, all pencil marks are erased with my big yellow eraser and then each canvas is sprayed with a clear sealant. This step is usually done on my front porch!

When the sealant is dry, the ribbon or beaded handles are added. Finally, the canvases are ready for a business card and delivery. They are off to their happy homes!

Mr. Clark

My fifth grade girls and I had the idea to take Mr. Clark a gift when we were on our visit last week. I was thrilled to do a special canvas for him. I don't know if he liked it or not, but he sure acted like he did. He screamed and jumped around like we had given him a golden ticket. He called over the maintenance man and told him to go hang it in his office right then.
You would think it would be hard to get so excited over such a small gift escpecially after receiving things like a $365,000 check from Oprah Winfrey and unlimited flights to anywhere in the world from Delta Airline. But no, he made us feel special. I can only imagin how it feels to be one of his students.

Many of you already know Ron'se story. If you don't, you need top. You can check out his website at www.ronclarkacademy.com or even better, see the movie! His story is very inspirational for anyone, but especially teachers.

To see more pictures from our trip, click on the link on the sidebar to my class website. They are a hoot!

The McCormicks

This is a variation on the family canvas for those of you who want something with a little more pattern and movement. The established date is worked into one of the swirls in metallic silver. That silver is picked up again in that gorgeous striped silk ribbon. The simple black and white is always a favorite, but it can be done with any colors to compliment your home. This one was done as a wedding gift...good idea!

Family Canvases

Paula ordered herself a little something special.

Miss Amy is getting married very soon.

Tina is getting a custom made birthday gift. Notice that this one is one a forest green background instead of the usual black. Very pretty!

Joy ordered one for her home.

OOooohhh....Fun!

Where have I been? Who is coming down that slide? What are all of those kids doing? How much FUN have I had and what crazy things have I done? All those questions will be answered very soon!

Black Is The New Black

Both of these are going to Monica in Kentucky. She has a thing for black! Black is a very stylish, sophisticated color that never goes out of style or season. I love the black on black diamonds on the welcome.
Monica sent me this wooden letter and asked if I could paint on it. If it is a paintable surface, the answer is "yes, I can paint that for you"! If you have something other than a canvas that you would like customized, just ask.

As soon as I finish your rabbit, Monica, I will put these in the mail. Thank you!!

Valentine Sweets

Even though Valentine's Day is a birthday at our house, we still manage to feel the love. Lauren and I got these adorable matching heart aprons. She loves to cook with me so these were perfect for us. There are also heart shaped measuring cups and spoons that are too cute!

Lauren got the camera...Well, it was Valentine's Day!

The Best Valentine Ever

On this day four years ago at 7:55 in the morning, I received the best Valentine ever. My daughter, my sweetheart, my baby celebrated her birthday today. For me, it is so perfect that Lauren Elizabeth was born on Valentine's Day. She entered my life on the sweetest day of the year and every day keeps getting sweeter.
There is nothing more romantic than sitting back with my husband, looking at our beautiful children, and reminiscing about times past as we tend to do on birthdays. Our romantic dinner for two has turned into a birthday party, but I wouldn't have it any other way. Excuse me...I need to go kiss her now.

Brown Sugar Body Scrub

I gave out several jars of homemade Brown Sugar Body Scrub as Christmas gift this year. I've had requests to share the recipe. I admit that this is not my original recipe. My very crafty friend, Sonya Cantrell, made this for our annual ladies' retreat at church and I fell in love.
I have very dry skin, especially in the winter, and really had not found anything that helped long term...until this! I love using it because it is inexpensive, all natural, smells great, and it really does work. Enjoy!

1 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup extra virgin olive oil
2 tablespoons honey
Mix well

That's it! Really! I quadruple the recipe when making a large batch for gifts and it works great. I put mine is a classic mason jar, added a bit of ribbon, and printed some labels on a favorite scrapbooking paper.

For Kaydee

I did some pretty pink polka dots a while back for Grace Rains. Tonya said that when she saw it she knew Kaydee would have to have one, too. I was happy to do them!

Romeo + Juliet

Kristin Green ordered these two 5x5 canvases for a friend to use in their wedding decorations. I always thought it would be so romantic to get married on or near Valentine's Day. I had a baby on Valentine's Day instead! Oh well!
Their decorations are red and white and Kristin requested a little sparkle. I had this perfect red and white heart ribbon that seemed like it was made for this project! Congratulations to the lucky couple and thank you to Kristin.

Maddi

Sweet Maddi has all the colors of the pastel rainbow in her room. I was looking forward to painting this canvas and getting to use so many pretty colors. It really gets you in the mood for spring. A big thank you to new customer Cheryl for this fun order!

This one is perfect for a child's room, but would also look great with welcome, a family name, or some little "springy" saying for a front door or anywhere in the house. This one is 12x24 but the design can be adapted for any size large or small.

Bathroom Makeover

Before
My kids had outgrown their bathroom! The walls were pale yellow but become covered with handprints and splashes. The frog theme had gotten a little old for all of us. I also still had lots of baby stuff in the cabinet. Over winter break, we had a big clean out and clean up!
I repainted the walls in a deep taupe with lighter taupe stripes. That neutral color is accented by turquoise towels and mats and a new natural canvas shower curtain. I already had the rustic metal star and it happened to have those colors in it. I replaced all of the frog buckets, cups, and things with brushed silver and dark wicker.
I think it has a cleaner, more modern, and more grown up look to it. I am most proud of myself for hanging the new brushed silver towel bar. That job was harder than it looked!

Suzanne's Snowmen

These two snowmen are little different from my usual snowmen. I chose to do these two on a navy blue background and instead of a top hat, they have a toboggan and earmuffs. Suzanne Prater wanted me to use the maroon and hunter green to match her home and I just thought the navy went well. I love the ltouch of blue in the gingham ribbon as well.
Suzanne now has two scarecrows for fall, two gingerbread men for Christmas, and two snowmen for winter. What am I going to come up with for spring? Thanks so much, Suzanne! It is always my pleasure to paint for you.
